The replacement of the President of the Vlatadon and the Minister for Transport, Aleksandar Nikolovski, expressed satisfaction regarding efforts to address issues faced by Macedonian professional drivers within the Schengen zone. He questioned the pace of state-led bilateral discussions concerning the issuance of long-term work visas. Nikolovski stated that discussions are actively taking place on a bilateral basis.
He noted that while some efforts are public, there are numerous ongoing activities conducted at the daily operational level, assuring continued work in this area. Regarding specific agreements, he confirmed progress with Switzerland, Croatia, and Romania. Furthermore, he indicated that negotiations are in the final stages with Slovenia, Austria, and Germany.
According to the Minister, these ongoing efforts are structured to resolve the broader challenges faced by Macedonian transporters, particularly concerning the acquisition of long-term work visas. He also addressed the situation with Greece, implying that discussions are progressing for that country as well. The Minister emphasized the multi-faceted approach being taken, highlighting both public initiatives and continuous, detailed activities aimed at securing comprehensive solutions for the country’s transport sector within the Schengen framework.
