NATO to Gradually Reduce KFOR Presence in Kosovo

NATO will progressively adjust its mission supporting stability in Kosovo, a role established since 1999 following the intervention of the subsequent year. The ongoing operation, conducted by NATO’s KFOR (Kosovo Force), remains firmly committed to ensuring security and stability within the region. Speaking on the matter, General Alex G.

Grinkovic, of the Allied Command, the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), stated, “NATO and KFOR are fully committed to the stability and security in Kosovo.” He highlighted the organization’s contribution to bolstering security infrastructure and the enhanced capabilities of Kosovo’s defense structures. Current conditions now permit a further optimization of KFOR’s size and deployment locations. The anticipated reduction in personnel will align with established national rotation cycles for deployments and redeployments stemming from the original NATO intervention.

This adjustment reflects the sustained stability achieved in Kosovo since 1999, which has been a key focus of the ongoing NATO mission. The long-term goal remains the continued support of which ensures a secure environment for the people of Kosovo.
