North Macedonian Prime Minister Voices Skepticism Regarding EU Process
Skopje – Prime Minister Hristo Miskoiski addressed the visit of European Council President Antonio Costa to Skopje, stating that the government’s position remains firm and unchanged. Miskoiski expressed reservations about the ongoing European Union accession process, characterizing it as “an adventure without a known end.”
Speaking to reporters, Miskoiski emphasized that the country is significantly behind in progressing through the accession requirements. “We are far behind in this matter and our position remains unchanged,” he stated.
He asserted he lacks the authority as Prime Minister to support what he perceives as an ill-conceived undertaking. Miskoiski argued that expecting a high-level European politician to alter the government’s stance is “not serious.” He stressed the importance of establishing trust, asserting that “in order to build trust, it is necessary to build trust.” He further commented, “The citizens of 3 and 10 years old are aware of such adventures and we are in the place where we were 25 years ago.”
The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to completing the necessary steps within the EU process, but underscored the need for clarity and a defined outcome before proceeding. He maintained that the government’s position will not be swayed by external influence.
