Mitkoski before the court: We are prepared to argue the case, but with respect to the Macedonian identity

Macedonia to Engage in EU Discussions Prioritizing National Identity

Skopje – Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mitkos announced plans to actively participate in upcoming discussions with the European Union, scheduled for June 1, 2026, at 19:13 and presided over by EU Council President Antonio Costa. Mitkos stated that his government is prepared to address any subject brought before the Council. “We are prepared to debate any topic,” Mitkos communicated to the Council.

“However, our approach will prioritize decisions that are both worthy and demonstrably protective of the Macedonian national identity.”

The Prime Minister emphasized a commitment to a collaborative process, asserting that the government does not anticipate needing to grapple with internal dilemmas regarding policy decisions. He underscored the importance of ensuring that all resolutions align with safeguarding the nation’s distinct cultural and historical heritage. The meeting is expected to focus on ongoing relations between Macedonia and the EU, with a particular emphasis on areas of mutual interest and shared values.

Further details regarding the specific agenda will be released by the EU Council in the coming days.
