Israeli Defense Minister Katz Reaffirms Commitment to Southern Lebanon Presence
Jerusalem – Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the Israeli military will maintain its presence in southern Lebanon, regardless of pressure from the United States. Speaking on Wednesday, Katz asserted that the Israeli army will not withdraw from the region, where it is engaged in operations against Hezbollah, a militant group supported by Iran. “We will not be drawn!” Katz declared, reiterating a previous statement made by the Israeli army last week.
The military has indicated that it has no immediate plans for a withdrawal from Lebanon. This follows the release of an updated map outlining a “Security Zone” along the country’s southern border. The security zone extends along the entire border between Lebanon and Israel, penetrating approximately 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory.
Minister Katz’s comments underscore the ongoing military operation and Israel’s continued commitment to maintaining a strategic presence in the area. The defense minister’s position reflects a long-standing Israeli concern regarding Hezbollah’s activities and influence.
