Meloy told Trump’s doors: These are unreasonable attacks, focus on your popularity!

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni addressed criticism following remarks directed at former U.S. President Donald Trump, stating a firm intention to move beyond the discussion. Meloni said that she would not revisit the subject of the attacks.

Responding to what she characterized as “unprovoked attacks,” Meloni expressed her disapproval of the focus on her popularity. “President Trump, these unprovoked attacks are unthinkable,” she stated. “What is being brought to my popularity, it is certain that it has not helped me with you.”

Meloni emphasized that her political standing is rooted in her commitment to safeguarding Italian national interests.

“My popularity depends on my ability to defend Italian national interests, and that is what I have always done,” she asserted. Furthermore, she confirmed a previous action – a prohibition on American fighter planes operating from Italian territory. Meloni clarified that the use of force is governed by international treaties, which Italy has consistently upheld.

She indicated that renegotiating these agreements is contingent upon her assumption of the prime ministership. “Italy remains a sovereign state,” Meloni concluded, adding that her popularity does not require constant renewal.
