New Government Prioritizes Transport Capital Investments in North Macedonia
KOLUNNA – The newly established government of the Republic of Macedonia (R. Macedonia) is focusing its initial capital investments on significant infrastructure projects, primarily within the transport sector. Following two years of discussion, the government’s strategy centers around the development of power plants and railway systems.
A key immediate goal is the completion of the A1 motorway, with one section already operational and anticipated to be fully utilized by 2027. Preparations have commenced for the construction of a power plant, following agreements established in March 2023 with Bechtel and Enka. This project, previously stalled under the previous administration, is now proceeding according to the agreed terms.
The government’s approach represents a shift in focus, responding to many identified needs within the country’s infrastructure. Officials state that the power plant’s location, previously a point of uncertainty, has now been definitively determined. These capital investments are intended to stimulate economic growth and improve transportation networks across the region.
