Manchester City Secure Deal to Sign Enzo Maresca from Chelsea
Manchester City has finalized an agreement with Chelsea to acquire Enzo Maresca, who will assume the managerial role at the “city” club, according to reports from Scaij Sport Italia. The deal involves a transfer fee of approximately €20 million to be paid to Chelsea for Maresca’s release from his contract. The move comes as part of a succession plan following Pep Guardiola’s departure from Manchester City.
While the specific reasons for Maresca’s emergence as the primary candidate remain unclear, it’s understood that his prior experience and tactical understanding were key factors. Maresca previously served as assistant manager to Guardiola at Manchester City during the 2022/23 season. Prior to joining City, Maresca achieved success with Leicester City, leading them to promotion to the Premier League.
He is slated to take over as Chelsea’s manager in 2024, however, the unexpected move to Manchester City will occur on January 1, 2026. The club will pay a significant fee to secure his services.
