In a recent interview on Rent Free radio, pop icon Madonna discussed her experiences during her time within the Yugoslav club scene in her youth. At 80 years old, she recalled seeking specific qualities in potential romantic interests. The singer said she frequently asked prospective boys questions regarding their character and background.
“I asked: ‘Where do you live?’ and they said: ‘On the Upper West Side.’ And I asked: ‘Do you have the courage?’ That was a significant factor for her,” Madonna explained. Beyond location, she was also interested in a candidate’s personality. “I asked: ‘Do you have the courage?’ And they said: ‘That boy or potential boy and just be yourself or just put on makeup,’” she said with a smile.
She also expressed an interest in their family background, inquiring, “And I also asked: ‘What food does he eat from his mother!’ That was a big plus for me.”
