Janevski: We have the power to initiate historical reconciliation and long-term good neighborly agreements between Macedonia and neighboring countries

The Association of Macedonians and children of the Egean region of Macedonia (MAKEDONIA) and the Association of Macedonians from the Egean region of Macedonia, “Sonce od Kuteš,” recently announced plans to observe significant historical commemorations in Skopje. These organizations are marking several important anniversaries related to Macedonian history and the Egean region. The planned observances include the 80th anniversary related to the Greek war in Greece, which took place between 1946 and 1949.

Furthermore, the commemorations will mark the 78th anniversary concerning the expulsion of Macedonian children from the Egean region in 1948. These events draw attention to periods of significant demographic and geopolitical history affecting the Macedonian community. The focus on these anniversaries underscores the organizations’ commitment to preserving historical memory regarding the relationship between the Macedonian people and the Egean region.

Such commemorations serve as platforms for cultural remembrance and dialogue concerning the history of Macedonia. By organizing these events, the associations aim to keep the memory of past events, including the period of expulsion and the wartime conflicts, visible to the public. The stated efforts highlight the enduring connection of the Macedonian diaspora and community members to their historical roots within the Egean region.
