The official Facebook page for Stevo Jakovljevic’s party announced that the party leader, Stevo Jakovljevic, has voluntarily departed to serve a sentence of six months in prison. In a statement released by the party’s chief of staff, Jakovljevic addressed the circumstances of his incarceration. He stated that the court proceedings failed to consider his current health condition, noting that he is an oncology patient who underwent surgery just twelve days prior.
Jakovljevic characterized the sentencing as an act of “unhumanity” and a “flagrant violation of human rights.”
The statement further expressed deep disappointment regarding the verdict delivered by the Criminal Court. According to the announcement, the court convicted the party leader concerning an incident involving two city markets, or bazaars. Jakovljevic contested the charges, arguing that he had not denied opportunities to anyone and pointing out that the city administration had spent a total of one million and a half euros over the years in question.
He asserted that the city administration conducted business amounting to one and a half million euros during his tenure. The communication serves to inform the public of his immediate departure to fulfill his prison commitment while simultaneously issuing a political critique of the judicial process and the handling of city finances.
