Iran is preparing for the burial of the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which will last six days

Funeral activities honoring Hamne are scheduled to take place across multiple locations, with ceremonial candles set to last for six days across six cities, including sites in neighboring Iraq. The official mourning rites will commence at the Great Jamahiriya prayer complex in Tehran. These initial ceremonies are expected to continue through Monday, featuring a funeral procession through the streets of the Iranian capital, which will eventually transfer to Al Jizaira.

The procession will continue its itinerary on July 7th, moving to the holy city of Kom. Following this, the body is slated for burial in Mashad, Hamne’s birthplace, on July 9th. The burial will incorporate movements through the urban neighborhoods of Nazaf and Kerbala in Iraq.

Mourners from both within Iran and from international locations are expected to attend the ceremonies. Iranian authorities have projected a massive turnout for the state funeral, estimating that between 15 and 20 million mourners may attend. Furthermore, the police have announced that a significant funeral procession is planned for the streets of Tehran on July 15th.

The scale of the planned events indicates a prolonged period of commemoration, with the observance of the funeral rites set to span several days across various religious and civic centers.
