Iranian Officials Assert Control Over Hormuz Strait Following Negotiations

Tehran – Iranian Parliament Speaker and head of the negotiating team, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has stated that the Hormuz Strait will not be closed during times of conflict and will be governed by the Islamic Republic of Iran in accordance with international law. The comments were made following unsuccessful talks in Vienna. Ghalibaf attributed a significant shift in the strategic waterway’s situation to the recently agreed-upon nuclear deal between Iran and the United States.

He emphasized the importance of educating future generations on how the Hormuz Strait is managed, asserting that it should never be subjected to pre-emptive closures and that Iran’s governance must align with international legal standards. The Iranian state television network, PresTV, reported Ghalibaf’s statements. The official aims to reinforce Iran’s commitment to maintaining access to the vital shipping lane, a critical route for global oil supplies.

The comments come amidst ongoing international concerns regarding Iran’s nuclear program and its activities in the region. Keywords: iran, hormuz, strait
