In Nongja, a new record high temperature in history was recorded

Hungary experienced a significant weather event as a new all-time high temperature was recorded across the country. Meteorological services confirmed that the highest temperature measured reached 42 degrees Celsius in Szeged, located in northern Hungary near the Slovakian border. This reading surpassed the previous national record of 41.9 degrees Celsius, which had been set in 2007.

Amid the intense heatwave, authorities issued an extension for the highest, level three heat alert, which remains in effect for the entire nation until midnight on July 1st. The extreme weather conditions prompted visible public safety measures in major urban centers. In Budapest, for instance, operational police units utilized water cannons in public squares, such as Heroes’ Square, to help cool passersby affected by the rising temperatures.

The combination of the new temperature record and the extended severe weather alert underscores the severity of the heatwave gripping Hungary. Officials are urging the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against the extreme heat while the elevated alert level remains active.
