Croatia and EU Seek Concrete Progress in Western Balkans Integration

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković addressed concerns regarding the pace of European integration during a press conference at the EU-Western Balkans summit in Titovo Užice. Croatia is recognized as having achieved significant progress among regional nations in the integration process. However, the Croatian government is seeking tangible advancements and a resolution to outstanding bilateral disputes.

Plenković highlighted a key priority: the ongoing dispute concerning the establishment of territorial integrity between Croatia and Serbia. He stated that Zagreb is particularly focused on achieving a legally binding resolution through a bilateral treaty addressing this issue. Several other points of contention were also raised.

These include disputes related to Serbian property claims, specifically concerning Serbian property rights, and the contested memory plate in the Morinj area – formerly part of Yugoslavia. Furthermore, the sovereignty of the Morinj mountain peak remains a point of contention. Plenković emphasized that Croatia’s approach reflects a longstanding concern, previously articulated regarding a potential single state between the two nations.

The government’s objective remains securing legally defined solutions to these outstanding issues within the framework of EU integration.
