Former Macedonian President Pendarovski Signals Future Political Return Under Specific Conditions

Stevo Pendarovski, the former president of North Macedonia, has stated that he will not want to return to politics until a viable opposition coalition emerges. In an interview with SOROSODE’s “360 Degrees” program on MPRT 1, Pendarovski outlined his conditions for a potential political comeback. He emphasized that his return would be contingent upon the formation of a substantial, broad opposition coalition capable of challenging the current government.

“I would return to politics only under one condition: if the conditions are created for the formation of a serious, broad, large opposition coalition that would have a chance to overthrow this government,” Pendarovski explained. Currently, he does not perceive these conditions as existing. However, he acknowledged a possibility, stating, “But I do not rule out that such conditions could be created in the next year or a few months.”

Pendarovski’s comments reflect a cautious approach, highlighting the need for a significant shift in the political landscape before he would consider re-entering public service.

The former president’s stance underscores the challenges facing opposition movements in North Macedonia.
