Ministry of Education to Introduce New Reading Lessons for Nine-Year-Olds
Starting in the 2026/2027 school year, the Ministry of Education and Science will implement a revised list of lessons for basic nine-year-old students. This initiative aims to enhance literacy development and foster a deeper engagement with literature. The core curriculum will be supplemented with new content drawn from both domestic and international authors.
The primary goals are to ensure consistent interpretation of literary works, promote practical applications of reading skills, and expand students’ vocabulary. Recognizing the significant role of reading in personal development, the Ministry, following the guidance of Birtolo, emphasizes the art of reading’s impact on critical thinking, learning capacity, and aesthetic sensibilities. The program seeks to cultivate reading habits and nurture students’ overall personality.
Alongside the revised lessons, detailed implementation guidelines will be provided to educators. These guidelines will assist in ensuring a standardized approach to teaching and assessing student comprehension within the new curriculum framework. The focus remains on developing proficient readers equipped with the skills to analyze and appreciate literature.
