Macedonia has recorded several instances of tropical illnesses, including four cases of malaria, three cases of dengue, one case of Zika, and one case of West Nile fever. The Ministry of Health has issued a public advisory, urging residents to take necessary precautions against these diseases. The Ministry noted that the emergence of these cases follows a period of two years without recorded malaria instances, resulting in the identification of four such cases.
Furthermore, the three dengue cases and the single Zika case have been traced back to areas in Africa and the Indian Ocean region, specifically pointing to the islands of the Maldives and Zanzibar. Notably, the cluster of three dengue cases and the sole Zika case were associated with documented malaria cases in the Maldives. Dr.
Kleskovski provided warnings regarding the potential severity of these infections. He cautioned that dengue fever carries the risk of hemorrhagic fever, while Zika is considered particularly hazardous for pregnant women. Regarding malaria, he stressed that even milder forms can present potentially fatal consequences.
In light of these risks, the Ministry has strongly advised the public to adopt proactive measures to prevent infection.
