Five countries from the EU propose to limit the right to vote for future members

Macedonian text: Photo: Christian Lue on Unsplash The European Union should consider the possibility of temporarily limiting the voting rights of the upcoming new members and introduce additional mechanisms for safeguarding the ownership of the right, as stated in a joint document by Germany, France, Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg, in which it was mentioned that the President had been involved. The accession of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia is expected by 2028, and the accession of Albania, Ukraine and Moldova is expected to be preceded by preparatory negotiations, during which discussions are being held among the European Union about whether the rules for the admission of new members should be changed. Some of the member countries are committed to strengthening the safeguarding mechanisms for the upcoming members, due to the Union’s concern about the deterioration of democratic standards in Hungary during the period of the presidency of the former president.
