Fire Damages Railway Station in Skopje

Skopje, North Macedonia – A fire broke out beneath the main railway station in Skopje early this morning, causing significant damage to the building. Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, battling the blaze for several hours. Initial reports indicate the fire originated in a storage area adjacent to the station’s ticketing hall.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, but authorities suspect an electrical fault. Firefighters managed to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to surrounding buildings. While the extent of the damage is still being assessed, preliminary estimates suggest that approximately 1,000,000 square meters of the station’s interior has been destroyed.

No injuries have been reported. Rail services were temporarily disrupted as a result of the incident, but normal operations have since been restored. Local officials have pledged to conduct a thorough investigation and implement measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

The railway station is a major transportation hub for the city and surrounding region, and its reopening is expected to be a priority.
