Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi inaugurated the New Delta project, a major initiative focused on reclaiming desert land for agricultural development. This ambitious undertaking aims to significantly expand the country’s arable acreage while simultaneously generating over two million employment opportunities. The core objective of New Delta is the cultivation of diverse agricultural products, with a primary focus on establishing large-scale bee farms.
Beyond apiculture, the project will cultivate vegetables and various fruits, including olive trees and figs. This diversification effort is strategically designed to reduce agricultural waste destined for export. According to projections, the reclamation effort is expected to cover approximately 9,000 square kilometers—equivalent to 2.2 million feddans—by the close of the current year.
This expansion is anticipated to boost Egypt’s total arable land resources by an estimated 15 percent. The development represents a substantial effort to transform previously undeveloped desert areas into productive agricultural zones. By harnessing reclaimed land, the government plans to enhance food security and bolster the national economy.
The New Delta project underscores a strategic commitment to sustainable land use, positioning Egypt for increased self-sufficiency in key agricultural sectors.
