Cuba is also in the dark: millions of people are waiting for the news

The network operator UNE reported gradual restoration of services across central Cuba, extending from the western port of Mariel toward the border region of Sancti Spíritus. However, the main metropolitan area of Havana experienced significant disruptions. By Tuesday morning, approximately one-third of the capital city reported power outages, leaving many large commercial establishments without electricity.

Authorities confirmed that the disruption constituted the third largest power outage recorded this year. While the exact cause of the failure that occurred on Monday was not disclosed, the incident left an estimated ten million residents across Cuba without power for an entire night. The overall network shutdown was reported by the company SAAD.

The intermittent nature of the service interruptions has raised concerns regarding the stability of the national grid. Despite the partial restoration efforts reported by UNE in key corridors, the power cuts have severely impacted daily life and commercial operations throughout the densely populated urban centers. The government and utility providers have indicated that efforts are ongoing to stabilize the supply and minimize future disruptions.

The scope of the outage suggests systemic challenges within the national infrastructure that are currently being addressed by network operators.
