Assembly Approves Amendments to Education Laws, Including Parental Fine for Violent Students
The Assembly has approved amendments to laws governing basic and secondary education, introducing measures to address incidents of violence within the school environment. A key component of the revised legislation establishes a fine of 250 euros for parents whose children are involved in violent incidents. The funds collected from these fines will be allocated to cover compensation for damages resulting from violence and to address instances where parents or students fail to adhere to agreements established in collaboration with the school.
This includes situations where violence overrides previously agreed-upon resolutions. Representative Kathrina Dimitrovska of VMRO-DPMNE emphasized the importance of acknowledging parental responsibility in responding to reports of violent incidents. The proposed amendments require schools to notify the State Inspectorate of the decree within three days of its implementation.
The Inspectorate retains the authority to impose the 250 euro fine on the parents in cases of non-compliance. Furthermore, the legislation incorporates penalties designed to reinforce accountability. The revised laws aim to strengthen the role of schools and parents in preventing and addressing violence within the educational setting, ensuring a safer environment for students.
