Early Friday, major metropolitan areas such as Detroit, Chicago, and Washington reported some of the most polluted air quality readings globally. Air quality warnings were issued across a wide spectrum of areas, ranging from Minnesota down to Detroit, with monitoring systems reporting levels up to the fifth warning grade between Minneapolis and Chicago, extending through to Washington.
