A1 Motorway Construction Remains Uncompleted, UNESKO’s Review Pending
The construction of the A1 motorway linking Trebinje in Montenegro to Niš in Serbia remains incomplete, with a projected completion date still under review by UNESKO. According to Aleksandar Nikoloski, UNESKO’s assessment of the project identifies potential issues requiring further consideration. Nikoloski indicated that a final determination is expected by the end of June or the end of July.
The Ministry of Transport has affirmed Nikoloski’s decision to proceed with the project’s completion. Central to the ongoing discussion is the motorway’s route. Nikoloski stated the organization will advocate for a specific route selection and evaluate its suitability.
The project’s future hinges on the outcome of this assessment. If UNESKO’s arguments are successful, the complete route will be constructed. Conversely, if those arguments are unsuccessful, the Ministry will proceed with a shorter route.
Nikoloski emphasized that the core concern is not the dust generated during construction, but rather the chosen route itself. The anticipated completion of this significant infrastructure project is currently scheduled for June or July, pending the resolution of UNESKO’s review.
