Austria under attack by wolves: Hundreds of tourists evacuated, fire destroyed the castle

Severe Weather Impacts Upper Austria and Surrounding Regions

Strong winds, heavy rainfall, and high gusts of wind resulted in widespread disruption across parts of Austria. The most severely affected area was Upper Austria, where firefighters responded to over 1,000 incidents due to the extreme weather conditions. Wind speeds reached up to 115 km/h, leading to significant damage to trees and vehicles.

Several localized flooding events required emergency drainage operations, as reported by Kronen Zeitung. A thunderstorm in the Dobersberg area caused a fire within a castle tower, necessitating a rapid response from more than 100 firefighters. The fire, which took approximately one and a half hours to extinguish, was successfully contained.

Further north, in Steiermark, strong winds and rain prompted numerous interventions. A fire broke out at the tourist attraction, “Der Wildenberg,” requiring the deployment of over 100 firefighters with axes and fire extinguishers. This fire was also extinguished after an hour and a half, mitigating potential danger.

The events caused considerable damage across Austria, highlighting the impact of the severe weather. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage.
