Explosion Causes Damage and Missing Persons in Bitola Village

A significant explosion occurred on May 31, 2026, at the Walter Mononghidi Street Fishermen’s Complex in Fandoi, a village within the Bitola Municipality. The incident, which took place around 14:45 local time, resulted in substantial damage to several houses in the densely populated coastal area. Three people are currently reported missing following the explosion.

Police officials are actively engaged in the search and investigation. Head of the Bitola Police, Numan Trstivzhan, stated to Detik.com that authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion, expressing skepticism that it originated from a World War II device. “We are also searching,” he added.

As of this report, five bodies have been recovered from the site by a combined team of police, military personnel, and the National Agency for Disarmament and Salvage (Barsarna), alongside local authorities. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts continue to locate the remaining five people affected by the explosion. Identification of the victims is underway.
