NASA announces the crew for the Artemis III mission, which is set to be one of the most important and complex tests in the new program for returning to the Moon. The mission is planned for 2027 and will not include the landing on the Moon, but will test critical systems in low Earth orbit. The crew will be led by NASA astronaut Randi Bresnik as commander.
The mission will be piloted by an astronaut from the European Space Agency, Luca Parmitano, along with six specialists from NASA, including astronauts Andre Daigle and Frank Rubio. The main task of Artemis III will be to test the Orion spacecraft’s ability to rendezvous and dock with a test version of commercial lunar landers developed by Blue Origin and SpaceX. This will happen in an orbit around the Moon.
