Ebola Epidemic Continues to Spread in Democratic Republic of Congo
According to recent figures, 933 new cases and 245 deaths related to the Ebola epidemic have been recorded in the past day, indicating ongoing transmission, reports Roter. The situation remains critical within the Democratic Republic of Congo. Authorities have confirmed that at least 30 individuals died from Ebola within the Kikongoze camp for resettled persons, located in the northeastern part of the country.
The camp, housing over 15,000 residents, is situated in Bunia, the epicenter of the Ebola outbreak. The Democratic Republic of Congo declared a state of Ebola epidemic on May 15th, following the initial registration of fatalities. The majority of confirmed cases have been concentrated in the Ituri region.
Other camps for resettled persons in the region have also reported Ebola-related deaths. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the outbreak and to implement effective containment measures. The confirmed number of Ebola cases continues to rise, highlighting the sustained spread of the disease.
