Australian Achieves Record-Breaking Loudness
Jozef Mekregelj-Betap, a 58-year-old Australian, has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the loudest human voice, registering a sound level of 122.4 decibels. The achievement occurred on May 2nd at a radio studio in Canberra. Mekregelj-Betap’s vocal output surpassed the previous record for the loudest continuous sound, which was set in 1994 by Analisa Flanagan, a former teacher from Northern Ireland.
Flanagan’s recorded utterance of “silence” previously held the title. The Guinness Book of Records confirmed Mekregelj-Betap’s accomplishment. He produced the sound while repeating the word “now.”
Mekregelj-Betap is a professional air conditioner cleaner and also serves as a distinguished city voice for Canberra, a role he currently holds.
This record highlights the remarkable range of human vocal capabilities. The measurement was taken and verified on May 2nd, 2026. This marks a new benchmark for the loudest voice, demonstrating a significant increase in decibels.
