10.06.2026, center of Tirana | Photo: Met.mk Albanian protesters block the streets of the main city of Tirana until now the largest protest against the construction of a luxury tourist complex behind the American President Donald Trump, Zyad Koshner, carries El Djazira. Demonstrators in the middle carry translucent signs “Albania is not for sale” and shout “New Albania” in front of the office of Prime Minister Edi Rama, where a column of protesters had been speaking for one kilometer along one of the main city boulevards. The project, whose environmental impact is estimated at around 5 billion euros, has caused strong reactions and was planned in the vicinity of the protected marshland which represents the habitat of flamingos, falcons and sea eagles.
Protests began in the village of Zvernec in the south of the country on 10 June 2020.
