Skopje Reporter Biljana Martinoska Dies at 76

Skopje – Biljana Martinoska, a veteran news reporter and contributor to Nova Makedonija, has died at the age of 76. Her passing follows the death of her sister, writer Ana Martinoska. Martinoska, formerly known as Penushiska, was a respected voice within the Macedonian news landscape.

She primarily contributed to Nova Makedonija, focusing on textual analyses of cultural creation and particularly, the aesthetic sensibilities within artistic endeavors. Her work spanned a significant period, encompassing the late 20th century’s “golden age” of journalism, a time when cultural commentary was a recognized and valued component of media reporting. During this era, Martinoska specialized in examining cultural contributions from creation to policy, demonstrating a deep understanding of the field.

She was a key figure in a generation of journalists dedicated to exploring culture through a journalistic lens. Martinoska is the sister of Ilija Penushiski, a celebrated Macedonian sliktar who died on March 19. Funeral services for both sisters will be held on June 22nd at 9:00 am at the Botel cemetery in Skopje.
