Guest Worker Dies While Cleaning Canal in Popova Shapka
The Ministry of Interior reported yesterday, June 16, 2026, at 20:27, the death of a guest worker during routine canal maintenance operations in Popova Shapka, SRT Tivat. Police responded to the scene and discovered a 64-year-old male, N.M., a resident of Debrec, North Macedonia, employed by Komunalec Gostivar. Mr.
N.M. was working alongside colleagues to clean a canal, specifically a channel designated for the collection of surface water. The area involved was a channel system.
Upon removal from the canal by the Territorial Fire Brigade, medical personnel from the Inta Medical Aid Center pronounced him dead. A labor inspector was also present at the location. The circumstances surrounding the worker’s death are currently under investigation.
Authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the incident. The canal was a site for surface water collection.
