Macedonia has actively participated in the global Partnership for Open Government for 15 years, undertaking numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability. The scope of these pledges includes several tangible achievements, such as the opening of the Council of Ministers’ Secretariat, the establishment of a register of true supporters, and the provision of public access to contracts for public grants. Furthermore, the state has implemented the availability of a register of selected and named officials within the State Commission for Combating Corruption, alongside the electronic submission of declarations concerning property and interests.
Beyond these measures, the initiative has expanded to include the availability of comprehensive health programs, supported by the results of low-cost surveys. These accomplishments represent only a fraction of the commitments undertaken through the Partnership for Open Government. The process has generated dozens of pledges aimed at eradicating opacity across various sectors.
Crucially, the work extends beyond executive bodies. Efforts are also underway to improve compliance among legislative and judicial authorities, in collaboration with local organizations. These ongoing efforts demonstrate a sustained commitment to institutional reform.
The continuous focus on making information accessible, maintaining public registers, and strengthening mechanisms to combat corruption underscores Macedonia’s long-term dedication to open governance principles.
