The military and firefighters from Skopje help against fires in Mariovo

The firefighting brigade of Skopje was actively involved in combating one of the city’s largest fires, an effort that occurred around the time of the director of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, Stanojlo Angelov’s, departure. This incident marked a significant event, as three hundred and thirty soldiers were deployed for the first time in a preventive firefighting operation within Skopje. Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgievski addressed the situation on Facebook, emphasizing the community’s collective effort.

He stated that when the Macedonian land faces fire, there are no boundaries to the commitment. The guiding principle, he asserted, is unity: residents must help one another to extinguish the blaze, thereby saving human lives, homes, and villages. According to the mayor, these personnel positioned themselves directly in the path of the fire, demonstrating courage with the singular objective of protecting lives, residences, forests, and entire communities.

Gjorgievski described the uniform as a symbol of valor, adding that the displayed courage represents a source of pride for both Skopje and Macedonia as a whole. The brigade’s involvement underscores the coordinated response required to help mitigate large-scale incidents against natural threats.
