The VUO-DPMNE party has faced criticism regarding its reaction to a video released commemorating the 35th anniversary of Macedonia’s independence. The party directed accusations toward the SDSM, asserting that the opposition once again adopted an unfavorable stance. Furthermore, VUO-DPMNE challenged the opposition and the prosecution concerning the first president of independent Macedonia.
VUO-DPMNE stated that the SDSM’s response was noteworthy, adding that the video’s specific connection to Nikola Gruevski remains unclear, as the commemoration covers the entire 35-year period. According to the party’s statement, the video aims to highlight the positive aspects of the past three and a half decades. The reaction further claimed that while negative elements have not been forgotten, Zaev and Veton Surroi are prominently featured in the public memory of these events.
Despite this defense, VUO-DPMNE has been criticized for the manner in which it presented the video. Critics have accused the party of politicizing the content and questioning the direct link between the video’s themes and Nikola Gruevski. The discourse surrounding the 35th anniversary of independence has thus become a point of contention between the DPMNE and the SDSM.
