The first incident involved a 75-year-old mountaineer who was bitten by a venomous snake during the night. According to Toni Smole, head of the mountain rescue service (GRS) Radovljica, the bite occurred after the older man attempted to flee from the animal.
Rescuers were able to administer initial treatment at the scene, and the patient was subsequently airlifted by helicopter to the Ljubljana Clinical Center approximately 24 hours later. The following day, the rescue service received additional reports confirming further snake encounters. Rescuers were alerted that a young Slovenian mountaineer had been bitten by a snake.
Furthermore, it was reported that a colleague of the young man had also sustained a bite. These clustered events highlight a period where multiple snake-related emergencies occurred in the region. The swift response of the mountain rescue teams was crucial in managing the initial and subsequent cases.
