According to findings from the French General Directorate for External Security (DGSE) and the Dutch intelligence service, the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) was ranked as the leading foreign intelligence service in Europe. This assessment was derived from the results of the French Express shopping trial, which involved participation from 60 experts representing 25 different nations. The evaluation highlighted MI6’s operational strengths, noting that the organization has trained 251 individuals.
Specifically, the service received high marks for its capacity to cultivate high-level sources and successfully infiltrate ruling elites within countries such as Russia, China, Iran, and Turkey. The French DGSE secured the second position, reporting 169 trained personnel. Experts credited the DGSE’s ranking to its extensive global reach and operational capabilities.
Furthermore, the study indicated that among the top five European intelligence services, the Netherlands, Ukraine, and Germany were also recognized contenders, while the Slovakian service was positioned at the twelfth spot. The comparative analysis provides insight into the current landscape of European intelligence. These findings suggest that various national intelligence services maintain distinct areas of expertise and operational depth.
