Two firefighting helicopters are actively engaged in efforts to control a major forest fire that has devastated an area northwest of Athens. The blaze has been ongoing for over a week on the tourist island of Kefalonia, resulting in the destruction of more than 100 homes. Specifically, one Greek and one Danish national died during the operations. However, the crew of the second helicopter, comprising one Greek and one British national, survived the incident. Investigations into the cause of the fire are currently underway.
According to the Greek fire service, the two helicopters were operating in the vicinity of Psa, located within the Attica region. Preliminary investigations have raised suspicions regarding the origin of the blaze. These investigations suggest that the fire, which initially started in the region of Boeotia within the Greek region, may have been ignited by sparks originating from a fire.
