Hungarian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Anitta Orban stated in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera that Hungary has no intention of altering its current policy regarding the war in Ukraine. Orban emphasized that the nation’s mandate, she asserted, is not focused on military hardware but rather on providing assistance through humanitarian aid and implementing sanctions. According to Orban, Hungary believes that the country in question must fight for its own interests and core principles, rather than solely for the benefit of the Hungarian minority residing in the Transcarpathia region of Ukraine.
She addressed the issue of international support, noting that Budapest supports Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, but stressed that this support is based on the implementation of annexed territories. The Minister reiterated that the policy stance on the conflict remains consistent. She clarified that Hungary’s focus is not on the repair or transfer of military weapons.
Instead, the national priority, she stated, is to provide support through alternative channels. Orban made it clear that Hungary’s commitment is not solely tied to a single military objective. She affirmed that the government is not prepared to deviate from its established course of action.
Therefore, while supporting Ukraine’s broader goals, she maintained that the support structure must reflect a balanced approach, rather than focusing on one specific aspect of the conflict.
