The citizens are asking for the proposed measures to ban smoking in public places

A recent public opinion survey conducted by the agency Market view, commissioned by MKD.mk, indicates substantial public backing for proposed legislation aimed at regulating tobacco use. The study, which gathered data between June 10 and June 27, assessed citizen sentiment regarding a potential law to restrict smoking in public areas across Macedonia. The research polled 1,200 respondents, and the findings reveal that a majority of the population supports the government’s proposal to implement a comprehensive ban on smoking in public spaces.

Specifically, more than two-thirds of those surveyed expressed approval for the measures designed to curb tobacco use in shared environments. The results suggest that the concept of restricting smoking within public venues is a widely accepted policy objective among Macedonian citizens. The findings, published on July 5, 2026, underscore a clear mandate from the public regarding the protection of communal air quality and health standards.

The survey results provide empirical evidence supporting the government’s efforts to introduce stricter regulations concerning tobacco products. This level of support suggests that any legislative move toward a full ban on smoking in public places is likely to meet with broad community acceptance. The data highlights a strong societal consensus favoring measures that aim to safeguard public health by limiting exposure to secondhand smoke.
