Since June, the Public Health Hygiene department in Skopje has been actively engaged in removing substantial amounts of waste from informal landfills across various neighborhoods in the city. To date, teams have removed a total of 6,165 cubic meters of waste from these unauthorized dumping sites. Furthermore, the effort has focused on collecting mixed municipal waste from residential areas.
Over the past period, more than 14,030 tons of household waste have been removed from the neighborhoods of Gazibaba, Gorche Petrov, and Butel. Specific removal efforts included 65 cubic meters of waste from Peiro Nkov street in the Gazibaba neighborhood, and 75 cubic meters of waste from Lichniada street in the Chento settlement. Additionally, 155 cubic meters of waste were removed from the area of the Butel settlement within the Gorche Petrov neighborhood.
The cumulative removal efforts in the Butel neighborhood alone account for the total 14,030 tons of mixed municipal waste sourced from households. In the preceding month, the department also managed the transportation and disposal of 14,030 tons of mixed municipal waste from households. These ongoing operations underscore the sustained commitment to cleaning up and managing accumulated waste throughout Skopje’s diverse neighborhoods.
