NO PEACE IS FOUND ON THE BALKANS, ONLY LONG-TERM PEACE: Dodik and Izetbegovic with a fist and a threat

Bakiр Izetbegović and Milorad Dodik, leaders of the two most significant political blocs in Bosnia and Herzegovina representing Bosniaks and Serbs, recently engaged in a contentious phone conversation. This exchange, which included mutual accusations, is reported to have energized the ongoing election campaign. During discussions, the parties addressed various national and regional positions.

Specifically, elements of the dialogue touched upon Croatian stances, noting that the Serbian position was viewed in relation to the Croatian one. Separately, Izetbegović gave an interview to the Bosnian-Herzegovinian TV Federation (FTV), where he asserted that Dodik must be “removed with force” due to the persistent crisis and secessionist threats within Bosnia and Herzegovina. Izetbegović argued that the law should apply universally, suggesting that Dodik was exempt from its jurisdiction, and concluded that a decisive action would eventually be necessary.

The high level of political friction suggests deep divisions regarding the path toward stability and peace in the country. The initial phone call and subsequent public statements highlight irreconcilable differences in political strategy between the two leaders, keeping the political landscape volatile as elections approach.
