WHO: All indicators point to the end of the Hantavirus epidemic

According to reports, the total number of reported cases yesterday reached 13, with three of those cases resulting in death, as noted by Euronews. During a press conference in Geneva, the World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, provided an update on the global situation. He stated that since the epidemic was first introduced on May 2nd, over 650 contacts had been identified across 33 countries and territories.

Ghebreyesus detailed the current quarantine status, noting that all contacts, with the exception of 54 individuals, had successfully completed their isolation period. He specified that the remaining 54 contacts are scheduled to conclude their quarantine by July 2nd. Based on this data, the WHO indicated that it intends to consider the epidemic over by that date.

The global concern surrounding the outbreak was previously heightened by the detection of respiratory symptoms among a group of patients originating from the Dutch cruiser MV Hondius. The spread of the epidemic had previously impacted various regions, notably causing an outbreak in Ushuaia, Argentina, on April 1st, and affecting several locations throughout the South Atlantic. The World Health Organization continues to monitor the situation as the international community awaits the final assessment of the outbreak’s trajectory.
