An attack occurred three days ago at a school in the town of Tkalchan, resulting in the deaths of three students and injuring twenty others. Authorities have identified two suspects, aged 15 and 14, who are linked to online gaming content. The connection between the incident and digital media centers on a specific video game, Gorebox.
According to the game’s description on Google Play, the gameplay involves users who can “unite with something” and “engage in brutal fighting with a large arsenal of weapons and explosives.”
In response to the tragedy, the state agency responsible for internet safety stated that any potential influence from the internet cannot be disregarded. Abou Pairisho, deputy chief of the Central Office for Investigation and Coordination of the Internet, addressed the investigation, noting that the temporary blocking of the game is a necessary measure. He stated that this action will allow authorities to accurately determine the extent to which the platform influenced the events that took place at the school.
The investigation is currently focusing on the digital habits of the suspects, particularly the violent nature of the game they played. Officials are examining whether exposure to such content contributed to the actions leading to the attack. The agency emphasized that the review aims to understand the role of online platforms in incidents involving minors, ensuring that the full scope of digital influence is assessed in the ongoing inquiry.
