Skopje Mourns Loss of Literary Figure Yovan Pavlovski
On June 24, 2026, Skopje marked the passing of Yovan Pavlovski, a prominent Macedonian cultural figure. Pavlovski was a respected encyclopedist, poet, storyteller, novelist, and writer for young audiences. He also served as a publicist and held the position of three-term president of the Writers’ Association of Macedonia.
Pavlovski’s career spanned several decades, including his role as a long-time editor for numerous sections of “Nova Makedonija,” where he was a well-known correspondent based in Paris and Moscow. He was born in Tetovo on September 10, 1937. From 1980 to 1986, he taught the theory and practice of journalism at the Interdisciplinary Studies of Journalism within the University of “Kiril and Metodij” in Skopje.
He was an active member of the Writers’ Association of Macedonia from 1962, serving as president three times (1992-1994, 1994-1996, and 2007-2008), and a member of the Macedonian PEN Center. Pavlovski authored fifteen books in their first editions, including the poetry collection “August” (1961).
