DZR Report Highlights Financial Concerns at PIOM
The Pension and Disability Insurance Fund (PIOM), which manages nearly 600,000 insured individuals and over 340,000 pensioners in North Macedonia, has received a negative assessment from the State Audit Institution (DZR). The findings of the DZR’s 2024 review report reveal significant areas of concern within the institution’s operations. The report details substantial, yet largely undocumented, assets totaling hundreds of millions of denari.
It also identifies delays in contributions to the second pension pillar, alongside questionable public procurement processes. Furthermore, the review highlighted weaknesses in the administration of pension homes and unresolved issues from previous audits. Specifically, PIOM is reportedly owed millions by the second pension pillar.
The DZR’s assessment indicates a need for improved financial transparency and accountability. The report underscores the importance of addressing these vulnerabilities to ensure the long-term stability and effectiveness of the pension system. Further investigation is recommended to fully understand the scope of these issues and implement necessary corrective measures.
