Djovan Mali Elected as New President of Italian Football Federation
At a meeting of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), Djovan Mali was elected as the new president, securing 68.58% of the votes. Djiancarlo Abe received 29.17% of the vote in the election. Abe previously served as president of the FIGC from 2007 to 2014.
Mali is a professional international football player with experience studying the organization of large sports facilities within Italy, including involvement in the Rome candidacy for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. He previously led the Italian Olympic Committee (CIO) from 2013 to 2025. The election occurred amidst a backdrop of challenges for the FIGC, particularly a significant management crisis in 2018 when Italy failed to qualify for the World Championship in Russia.
This prior experience appears to have influenced the outcome of the presidential vote. With 68.58% of the votes cast, Mali’s appointment marks a new chapter for the football organization. The election reflects a shift in leadership within the FIGC.
