Ministry of Education and Science Initiates Educational Network Optimization
The Ministry of Education and Science has commenced a planned optimization of its educational network, a process deemed essential for the sector’s continued development. This initiative, supported by UNICEF and ongoing for the past six years, aims to restructure teaching hours and roles. Minister of Education and Science, Vesna Jovanska, has stated that the process will not involve teacher dismissals.
Instead, the focus is on redistributing teaching hours to ensure optimal staffing levels within the education system. Following recent criticism, particularly from the independent syndicate, the ministry clarified that the changes do not alter the legal framework surrounding the employment of support staff. Teachers assisting children with specific needs will continue to be regularly employed and will receive teacher-level compensation.
Their role will transition to that of an educational assistant, providing support within the educational environment. The syndicate’s initial concerns regarding the changes have been addressed, with the ministry emphasizing that the legal basis for employing these support staff remains unchanged. This optimization of the education network represents a key strategic move by the ministry.
