This issue has emerged alongside ongoing negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict. Radoslav Rogas highlighted the critical situation, noting the army’s strain due to the protracted war.
The government has affirmed its commitment to exploring measures to bolster troop numbers, contingent upon developments in discussions with Russia. During a recent government meeting, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev stated, “We have agreed on how to finance our defense and to continue with the transformation of the Ukrainian army.” He indicated that a specific mechanism for increased funding would be established, with initial payments anticipated to commence in June. This initiative follows the disbursement of €90 billion from the Troika for Ukraine – a substantial contribution from the European Union – which is facilitating the repayment of Macedonia’s national debt.
The government anticipates completing this significant debt repayment at a record level by the end of the year. “Said” Zoran Zaev, emphasizing the government’s proactive approach to securing the nation’s defense capabilities amidst the continued war with Russia.
